“This film grew out of my fear of the uncertainty of what comes after death and the guilt I carry from not having spent enough time with the person who raised me, my grandmother. When I moved to America at the age of seven, I was only able to visit her twice. Each time I returned, I became more aware of how quickly time had passed and how little of it we truly have with the people we love.
Seven years since my last visit, I returned to China once again during the summer. My grandmother is now almost ninety years old, and the uncertainty of whether this might be our last time together forced me to confront what makes the limited time we have on this Earth meaningful. It led me on an exploration to look more closely at how we live, how we love, and how we imagine tomorrow.
In this experimental documentary, I interviewed those closest to me and captured the small, fleeting moments that make up my life. On the day I had to return to school and say goodbye to my grandmother, I realized that the moment was more than just sadness alone. There was sweetness in it, two people looking forward, still choosing hope, even in the face of time.“
